The Bondone Valley

The Bondone Valley, crossed by the eponymous stream, is one of the less known valleys in the Orobie Valtellinesi Park, but hides corners of breathtaking beauty.

Leave your car in the characteristic hamlet of Bondone (1200 m), where the Assunta church is immediately visible; the first stretch of the road climbs amid red fir and spruce woods, until the lodges of Monte Basso (1570 m). Continue along a steeper path towards Malga Cantarena (2070 m); the valley opens up and the harsh landscapes testifies to the rock modelling action exerted by glaciers. You'll spot several lakes in the area, the most important ones being the Cantarena or Selù Lakes, at an altitude of 2260 m.

The Caronella and Bondone Valleys are Sites of Community Importance, part of the Natura 2000 Network.
